No fever than 56 people have been confirmed dead, since the outbreak of Gastroenteritis (stomach flu) in Sokoto State, Dr Muhammad Ali Inname confirmed.
Dr. Muhammad Inname, who is the Sokoto State Commissioner of Health gave this update while briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting today, Thursday.
While stressing that the gastroenteritis outbreak has affected 22 out of the 23 LGAs of the State, Dr Inmame listed worst hit LGAs to include, Dange Shuni, Illela, Gwadabawa and Bodinga.
He furrher said that the Tambuwal led government has procured drugs worth millions of naira and distributed same to all the 23 LGAs of the state to help prevent and control the health threat.
Listing other measures taken to curtail further spread of the disease, Dr Inname said, Governor Tambuwal has directed all the 23 LGC chairmen to hold stakeholders meeting to sensitize their people on preventive measures.
“These council chairmen have also been directed to ensure daily monitoring and supervision of their domain and report back to the state government for prompt action. This is in addition to the call on members of the public to clean their environment and ensure self hygiene culture at all times”.
On her part, Sokoto State Commissioner for Science and Technical Education, Dr Kulu Haruna said the council has considered and approved the purchase of 2500 double space beds and 5000 mattresses at the cost of N 437.5 million to be distributed to the science schools across the state
