Terrorists attack Sokoto villages, kill 4, rustle over 1,000 livestock

Four people have been killed and more than 1,000 livestock stolen after suspected terrorists launched coordinated attacks on four villages in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The affected communities—Doma, Gidan Tudu, Tsamiya and Lofa—were attacked on Tuesday, forcing many residents to flee their homes.

Several displaced villagers are now taking refuge at Danmatsani Model Primary School in Shuni, located in Denge Shuni Local Government Area, where they recounted the ordeal.

One of the victims, Jamila Umar from Doma village, described the attack as traumatic, saying the assailants moved from one community to another, killing residents and carting away livestock.

“In Doma village, the terrorists killed Sani Dankabu. They also killed Hantsi the son of Yanroma. They killed Danma and Abu in Gidan Tudu,” Jamila recounted.

She added that the attackers stole three of her family’s cows and their only camel, while making away with more than 1,000 cows belonging to different residents across the affected communities.

Another displaced resident, Lubabatu from Lofa village, said the attackers also looted valuables during the invasion.

“The terrorists carted away with over 100 cows and 50 phones from our village,” she said.

Residents of Tsamiya village also alleged that the attackers broke into shops, looted goods and invaded homes in search of food and other consumable items.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Sokoto State Police Command were ongoing at the time of filing this report.

When contacted via a text message, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufa’i, said he was attending a Zoom meeting with the Inspector-General of Police and promised to respond later.
