Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has said the decision by Northern Nigerian Women Ulama to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term was based on his achievements and inclusive style of governance.
Sani stated this on Sunday while speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement with delegates of the Northern Women Ulama drawn from the 19 northern states at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre.
The governor said the delegates represented millions of women across the region, adding that their decision to support Tinubu was not based on sentiments or personal interests, but on what he described as the president’s achievements in the North and across the country.
According to him, the women had made their position clear through their leaders, stressing that their endorsement was driven by Tinubu’s performance in education, infrastructure, healthcare and agriculture.
“They are not endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu based on sentiments or some selfish reasons. It is simply because of what he has done for Nigeria and for Northern Nigeria in particular,” Sani said.
He said the northern region had benefited significantly from the Federal Government’s investment in education under Tinubu, particularly in technical and vocational training and other skills-based programmes.
Sani noted that the education gap between the North and other parts of the country remained wide, stressing that the president had, within three and a half years, invested in both conventional and skills-based education.
He specifically cited the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying available data showed that Northern Nigeria had received more than 60 per cent of the benefits from the two programmes.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is detribalised. He is someone who believes in one Nigeria without discrimination. That is the reason why they are motivated and inspired, and decided to come together from the 19 northern states to endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
The governor also commended Tinubu for what he described as an unprecedented commitment to inclusiveness, saying the president had treated all parts of the country fairly and ensured that development was spread across the federation.
Sani said governors supporting the president were at the engagement to encourage the women ulama to take their message to the grassroots, including the 19 northern states, local government areas and wards.
“We as governors who are supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are here to support them, to motivate them to do more and take their message to all the 19 northern states, and all our wards and local governments,” he said.
He further claimed that the North had benefited under Tinubu’s administration more than under any previous Nigerian leader, saying the government had the data and statistics to substantiate the claim.
“The North has benefitted under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu more than any leader in the history of Nigeria. We have the data and the statistics, and we can prove it any day, anytime,” Sani said.
The governor also dismissed attempts by some politicians to frame the 2027 election around a North-versus-South narrative, describing such arguments as “lazy”.
He argued that several of those campaigning along regional lines had previously occupied influential positions, including the vice presidency, governorships and ministerial offices, but failed to deliver comparable benefits to the North.
The stakeholders’ engagement was organised by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari.
Governors Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Babagana Zulum of Borno attended the event.
Also present were the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle; Minister of Housing, Engr. Mutttaqa Rabe Darma; and other senior government officials.
