Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have killed two terrorists and recovered four AK-47 rifles, eight motorcycles, ammunition and other items during separate clearance operations in Sokoto State.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Theatre Command, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, saying the operations were carried out on October 15 by troops of the Joint Task Force North West.
According to the Army, troops of Sector 2 first engaged terrorists at Waria Forest, where a fierce gun battle led to the death of one terrorist.
The troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two motorcycles and other items from the scene after the encounter.
In another operation at Sarma Village, the troops clashed with another group of terrorists, killing one of them while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The fleeing terrorists abandoned some of their equipment during the operation.
A search of the area led to the recovery of two more AK-47 rifles, four magazines, 23 rounds of ammunition, a communication device and six motorcycles.
The Army said the recovery of eight motorcycles and weapons dealt a major blow to the terrorists’ movement and operational capability in the area.
Lieutenant Colonel Danja said the operations were part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace across the North-West theatre.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest security outpost.
The Army also appreciated members of the public for their continued support and cooperation with security agencies.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has continued to intensify clearance operations across the North-West as security forces sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region.
