The terrorist's suspect
Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a terrorist and arrested another during an intelligence-led operation in Abakuradi Village, Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The operation, conducted on October 5, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and one magazine, while several other terrorists reportedly fled the area with suspected gunshot wounds.
According to the Army, troops of 159 Battalion, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, moved into the area after receiving credible intelligence on the movement of terrorist elements.
Troops engaged the terrorists on contact, killing one and apprehending another, while others escaped into the surrounding area.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of the AK-47 rifle and magazine.
Troops have continued to search the area and pursue the fleeing terrorists in a bid to prevent them from regrouping or carrying out further attacks.
The operation highlighted the importance of timely intelligence and cooperation between military personnel and local security stakeholders, particularly in areas where terrorist groups may attempt to move, regroup or launch attacks against communities.
The Army said the success further demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with local security stakeholders in disrupting terrorist activities in the North-East.
