Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued two abducted herders, recovered 520 rustled livestock and repelled a terrorist ambush during separate operations in Sokoto and Zamfara states.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, said the operations highlighted the troops’ determination to protect lives, secure communities and restore lasting peace across the North-West.
He said troops of Sector 2 came under a coordinated ambush by terrorists while conducting a fighting patrol along the Anka-Guruzu Road in Zamfara State on October 28 following reports of terrorist activities.
According to him, the troops responded with overwhelming firepower, inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists and forced them to flee, after which they secured the road and restored free movement for commuters.
Captain Sinivie disclosed that one soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the exchange of fire but was immediately evacuated for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops acting on credible intelligence foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders at Takasaba Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
He said the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon 520 rustled livestock and two kidnapped herders identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14, who were later handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.
Captain Sinivie said the latest successes demonstrate the resilience, combat readiness and sustained offensive of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in denying terrorists freedom of action, securing critical routes and protecting vulnerable communities across the North-West.
He added that the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, commended the troops for their gallantry and urged them to sustain the offensive against terrorist groups, while encouraging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
