Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA has recorded operational successes in Kaduna and Kano States, rescuing 2 kidnapped victims, recovering 94 rustled livestock and disrupting terrorist activities in separate operations conducted on 25 and 26 August 2026.
Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, confirmed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday.
Lt. Col. Danja said: “In Kaduna State, troops of Sector 1 conducting a clearance operation on 25 August 2026 in Kachia Local Government Area encountered terrorists who attempted to ambush the advancing troops. The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee. Exploitation of the area led to the recovery of a motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.
“In another operation on 25 August 2026, troops of Sector 1 responded swiftly to a distress call on the abduction of 3 civilians and rustling of livestock around Hayin Babangida in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The troops tracked and engaged the terrorists, leading to the successful rescue of 2 female victims who were subsequently reunited with their families.
“Sadly, the third victim, a male, was found with a gunshot wound inflicted by the terrorists and died while being evacuated for medical attention.
He added that: “Similarly, on 25 August 2026, troops responded to reports of terrorist activities in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, where the terrorists had rustled livestock from a community.
“Troops of Sector 1 pursued the terrorists and made contact with them as they attempted to escape from the area. Overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, the terrorists fled in disarray and abandoned the rustled livestock.
He said further exploitation of the area on 26 August 2026 resulted in the recovery of additional livestock, bringing the total recovered to 94, comprising 57 cows and 37 sheep.
He said the livestock were subsequently handed over to their rightful owners in the presence of representatives of security agencies and local government authorities.
Lt. Danja said: “These operations underscore the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to sustain pressure on terrorist and criminal elements while protecting lives and livelihoods across the Joint Operations Area.
“The Joint Task Force will continue to take the fight to these criminal elements through intelligence-driven operations, aggressive patrols and rapid response to threats against communities.
The Joint Task Force commended members of the public for their continued support and urges residents to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information on suspicious activities to security forces.
“Such cooperation remains vital to ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace and security across the North West region”, it said.
