U.S President Donald Trump
President Donald Trump has enacted a bold executive order aimed at safeguarding American citizens from unlawful detention overseas, signaling a tough stance against nations that exploit U.S. nationals.
On Friday, the U.S. Department of State announced that the executive order introduces stringent measures for entities labeled as “State Sponsors of Wrongful Detention.”
According to the statement, “President Trump has taken historic steps to impose severe repercussions on those who unjustly hold Americans abroad.”
The order outlines penalties such as economic sanctions, visa bans, restrictions on foreign aid, and travel limitations for U.S. passport holders.
The State Department emphasized, “No country will want to be designated as a State Sponsor of Wrongful Detention, much like the State Sponsor of Terrorism list.”
The statement further underscored the administration’s commitment: “Those who use Americans as pawns in negotiations will face significant consequences.”
It concluded by affirming, “This administration prioritizes the safety and security of American citizens above all.”
