United States (US) has delivered military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) under an existing defence cooperation agreement with Nigeria, in what both countries describe as another step toward strengthening efforts against terrorism and other security threats.
The delivery was confirmed by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which disclosed in a post on X that a U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft transported the equipment to Nigeria last weekend.
Describing the shipment as a reflection of the growing security ties between Washington and Abuja, AFRICOM said the equipment was supplied through a Foreign Military Sales agreement aimed at enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
“Partnership in action,” AFRICOM said, adding that the equipment formed part of “a foreign military sales agreement designed to further the U.S.-Nigeria defence partnership.”
The latest military support comes as the Federal Government continues to deepen international security cooperation to combat terrorism, banditry and other threats affecting the country and the wider region.
Presidency defense Tinubu’s reforms
Meanwhile, the Presidency has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting they were necessary to prevent Nigeria from sliding into a deeper financial crisis.
In a post on X, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, urged Nigerians to reflect on warnings previously made by former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki about the country’s economic outlook.
“My fellow Nigerians, please revisit former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s warning made several years ago about the country’s looming financial crisis. In light of that prediction, Nigerians—including opposition leaders—should acknowledge President Tinubu’s efforts to avert a potential economic catastrophe through his bold reforms.”
Onanuga maintained that the administration’s economic policies were not intended to inflict hardship on citizens but to stabilise the economy and lay the foundation for long-term growth.
“President Tinubu did not introduce the economic measures to make Nigerians suffer, but to steer the country away from the dire outcome Obaseki predicted and place the economy on a more sustainable path. President Tinubu has done the most difficult work by stabilising the economy. His next reform is about bringing prosperity to all Nigerians.”
