United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Edward Kallon, has welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to dismantle the outfit the infamous Police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and the reform of the Police Force.
Kallon, who is also the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria, made the comment on Tuesday in a tweet via his Twitter handle @Edwardkallon.
He was reacting to Sunday’s directive by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, dismantling the dreaded SARS whose anti-people activities, including brutality, triggered the raging protests across Nigeria.
In the post, Kallon said, “I have followed the developments regarding #EndSARS movement.
“Government’s commitment to dismantle the outfit & reform the @PoliceNG is welcome.”
According to the UN representative, “The process may take time (but) I appeal to the youth to remain peaceful.”
He stressed that the UN was “committed to supporting Nigeria’s continued stability.”
