Management of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) has restored the employment of its first class graduates as part of efforts to engage young minds with a view to training them for a career in the academic sector.
Before now, first class graduates were not retained by the university as was done many years ago, which exposed them to untold hardship and few chances for employment.
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Inionong Uko, announced this in a statement made available to all heads of departments , a copy of which was made available to NATIONAL ACCORD on Thursday.
The statement directed heads of departments to compile the lists of all the first class graduates accordingly.
Part of the statement read, “I wish to remind heads of departments that management wishes to restore the policy of engaging the first class graduates and training them as young lecturers in the university.
“Consequently, I am writing to request all heads of departments to submit to the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), the particulars of students who graduated in the first class category.
“New heads of departments should check their departmental records and ask their predecessors and past student leaders of their departments for information on this matter.
“Please let no deserving graduate miss this opportunity,” the statement added.
