New Nigeria National Office Head, Suleiman Kum
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Mr. Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office (HNO), succeeding Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, who recently assumed office as the Registrar of the council.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina.
According to the statement, Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as an Assistant Registrar II and rose through the ranks to become Senior Deputy Registrar in 2024, reflecting nearly three decades of distinguished service in the examination body.
Before his elevation, he served as Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Head of National Office. Over the years, he has occupied several strategic positions, including Director of Administration, Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, Head of the Security Printing Department, and Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano.
WAEC said Kum also served as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration from September 2025 to August 2026, where he supervised key areas such as test development, examination administration, examination security, and branch and zonal office management.
The council credited him with driving several innovations that strengthened its operations, including the introduction of Variable Data Printing and enhanced security features in its printing processes. He also led the deployment of facial recognition biometric technology to replace the council-wide attendance system and played a major role in the successful conduct of Achievement Tests through the Computer-Based Examination (CBE) platform.
Born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, Niger State, Kum hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State. He obtained a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production with Second Class Upper Division from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, in 1992. Kum began his professional career during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1993 at the Division of Agricultural Colleges, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he served as Head of the Animal Production Unit. He subsequently taught at Baptist High School, Jos, between 1995 and 1998, holding several responsibilities, including Form Master, Labour Master, Classroom Teacher and Health Master.
The council noted that Kum has received numerous commendations and awards for his outstanding contributions to WAEC. He has also participated in several national and international conferences, training programmes and symposia, including in the United Kingdom.
