Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has stepped up its nationwide campaign for safer workplaces, with stakeholder engagements now underway in Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna.
The three-day programme, which started on Tuesday, August 18 and ends Thursday, August 20, 2026, is being organised by the Fund’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department under its “Programme on Safety Regulations, Policies and Standards”.
The campaign is focused on helping employers better understand occupational safety and health (OSH), while giving them practical knowledge to prevent workplace accidents and respond properly when incidents occur.
At the ongoing sessions, employers are being taken through OSH regulations, policies and standards, as well as the challenges facing workplace safety in Nigeria. Discussions also cover risk prevention, incident investigation, safety leadership and the use of new technologies to improve workplace safety.
According to a statement signed by NSITF Head of Corporate Affairs, Alexandra Mede, the programme is also designed to help employers develop and implement effective OSH policies and encourage closer cooperation among stakeholders on workplace safety.
The level of participation has also been higher than initially expected. NSITF had invited 85 employers to each of the Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna sessions, but attendance has surpassed the target.
The same response was recorded during the first phase of the campaign in Owerri, Port Harcourt and Lagos from August 11 to 14, where more than 100 employers attended each session.
The Fund said the campaign is coming at a time when workplace incidents and compensation claims in some sectors continue to underline the need for stronger safety measures.
For NSITF, the message to employers is that workplace safety should not begin and end with meeting regulatory requirements. The Fund wants safety planning, risk assessment and incident prevention to become part of the day-to-day running of businesses.
The Bauchi, Jos and Kaduna engagements are expected to wrap up on Thursday, with NSITF saying it will take the campaign to other parts of the country in the coming weeks as it works to promote wider compliance with occupational safety standards.
