National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Minna Operations Office, has commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of a recent rainstorm and communal clash in Lavun, Mokwa and Edati Local Government Areas of Niger State.
The distribution exercise, held on Tuesday, 1st September 2026, in Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government Area, was aimed at providing immediate humanitarian assistance to affected households and helping to ease the hardship caused by the incidents.
Representing the Head of NEMA Minna Operations Office, Mr. Hussaini Isah, the Head of Search and Rescue Unit, Mr. Shamsudeen A. Haliru, said the intervention was part of the Agency’s mandate to provide timely assistance to people affected by disasters.
The relief items distributed included bags of rice, maize, beans, seasoning, salt, tomato paste, vegetable oil, blankets and foam mattresses.
The intervention was facilitated by the Member representing Lavun/Mokwa/Edati Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Joshua Gana, following identified needs among constituents affected by the rainstorm and communal clash.
The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the member’s Constituency Office, represented by his Senior Adviser, Mr. Jacob Saba; the District Head of Ndalili, Mokwa, Alh. Muhammad Aliyu Shehu; NSEMA Desk Officer, Mal. Muhammad Isah Idugi; and representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC, vigilante groups, traditional institutions, community members and other stakeholders.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the assistance as timely and valuable in addressing their immediate needs.
They also commended the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for her continued support towards ensuring that humanitarian assistance reaches communities affected by disasters.
