Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC),, Omoyele Sowore, has alleged that recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have confirmed long-standing claims that key political actors worked behind the scenes during the build-up to the 2023 general election.
Sowore made the remarks in a post shared on his verified X handle on Tuesday, where he urged Nigerians to reflect on political events that took place before the last presidential election.
He referred to several political meetings and visits involving Wike, including meetings of the G5 governors, a meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in London, and visits by Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, to Rivers State.
According to Sowore, those events suggested that more political negotiations were taking place than the public was aware of at the time.
“Remember all those G5 meetings, including the meeting with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo in London, @GovWike’s political maneuvering, Mr. @PeterObi’s visits to Rivers State, and all the glowing compliments Wike received from some Obidients like my sister, @AishaYesufu’s ‘Wike Keena’?
“Now Wike is singing like a canary about what happened in 2022/2023.
“We said then that more was going on behind the scenes than Nigerians were being told, and that some of these political actors were helping Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT while publicly presenting themselves differently and blackballing any Nigerian with a different opinion.
“I always said it was a packaged fraud, I have now been vindicated.
“They ensured no revolutionary change would happen.
“They never wanted things to change in the first place.
“You all know better now!
“Instead of answering those questions, they attacked and blackmailed everyone who challenged the arrangement.
“Nigerians should revisit what was said and done at the time and compare it with what Wike himself is saying today.
“Don’t let them deceive you again! #Sowore2027,” he wrote.
Although Sowore did not state which specific comments by Wike he was referring to, his post followed recent public discussions sparked by remarks made by the FCT minister concerning political events leading to the 2023 elections.
The G5 governors, led by Wike, were at the centre of political negotiations ahead of the 2023 presidential election after opposing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over the party’s leadership crisis. The group eventually declined to openly support the PDP candidate during the election.
Sowore has consistently maintained that the 2023 election was shaped by political alliances and agreements that were not fully disclosed to Nigerians. His latest comments add to the ongoing debate over the roles played by major political figures before and after the election.
Neither Wike, Peter Obi, nor other individuals mentioned in Sowore’s post had responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
