The remains of the former Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Ezra Jakko (Rtd), were on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja, in an atmosphere of profound grief, solemn reflection and heartfelt tributes.
The funeral ceremony brought together family members, friends, colleagues and sympathisers who gathered to bid a final farewell to the late senior officer and honour a life devoted to service to the nation. The event was attended by senior serving and retired military officers and other distinguished personalities.
Delivering the funeral oration the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by the the Chief of Account and Budget (Army), Major General Taofik Temitope Sidick, paid glowing tribute to the late Major General Jakko, describing him as a highly professional soldier whose military career was distinguished by dedication, discipline and an unwavering commitment to duty.
He noted that beyond his professional accomplishments, the late senior officer was a man of admirable character who cultivated warm and enduring relationships with people across professional, social and religious divides. He described him as an exemplary leader whose innovative and instructional abilities positively impacted those who served and trained under him.
He particularly recalled the late Major General Jakko’s contributions to human capacity development while serving as Chief Instructor and Acting Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance (NASFA), where his knowledge, mentorship and leadership contributed significantly to the professional development of numerous students.
Born on 15 August 1964 in Wule, Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Major General Jakko was commissioned into the Nigerian Army through the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) as a Lieutenant on 4 October 1989. Through years of dedicated service, professionalism and commitment to the nation, he rose steadily through the ranks to attain the enviable rank of Major General.
Earlier, a funeral service was held in his honour at the All Saints Military Protestant Church, Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja. In a moving sermon, the officiating Minister, Apostle Emmanuel Kure, remembered the late Major General Jakko as a generous and fervent servant of God who devoted himself not only to military service but also to the service of humanity. He further revealed that the senior officer dedicated himself to working in God’s vineyard and attained the status of a Pastor and General Overseer of the Gospel Believers Mission
Apostle Kure reminded the congregation that their world is transient warning that the there is only a tin line between life and death. He prayed for divine strength and comfort for the bereaved family, urging them to draw consolation from God and from the enduring memories of a life that touched many others.
The solemn farewell was attended by the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin CFR (Rtd), former Chiefs of Army Staff, His Excellency, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai CFR Rtd and Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya CFR Rtd , senior serving and retired military officers; members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA); captains of industry; family members, friends and other dignitaries.
As the late senior officer was committed to mother earth with full military honours, the gathering reflected on a life of duty, sacrifice and service to Nigeria. Major General Ezra Jakko leaves behind cherished memories of professionalism, leadership and devotion to humanity. His passing represents a painful loss to his family, friends, colleagues and the wider Nigerian Army family.
