Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi
All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a fresh attack on former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent comments about his late mother and his personal financial situation, declaring that he is unfit to seek the office of vice president in the 2027 general election.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made the remarks in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, where he reacted to Amaechi’s claim that he could not afford medication for his mother before her death.
The APC began by praying for the repose of the soul of Amaechi’s late mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, and also wished the former Rivers State governor good health.
The party described Amaechi as a politician who had spent decades occupying top public offices, including Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State, Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant.
According to the APC, Amaechi’s recent public comments have raised questions about how he has managed life since leaving government.
The party said: “Rotimi Amaechi, you are a loafer outside the public office.”
It further stated: “For four decades, Rotimi Amaechi freeloaded at the highest levels of public office. He was never hungry and could afford medications for himself and his family. Just three years out of office, he has become destitute, unable to fend for himself and his loved ones.”
The APC also argued that Amaechi’s latest remarks showed he was not prepared for another opportunity to serve in government, adding: “The presidency is not a soup kitchen and will not be a soup kitchen for Rotimi Amaechi.”
The ruling party added: “No one can speak more to Rotimi Amaechi’s unfitness for the office of Vice President than Rotimi Amaechi himself.”
Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, is currently the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
The exchange marks another chapter in the growing political rivalry between the APC and opposition leaders as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the next general election.
The APC statement follows Amaechi’s recent public comments about his financial situation and the circumstances surrounding his late mother’s death, remarks that have generated widespread political debate across the country.
