The arrested suspects
Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to the killing and robbery of a family in Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The suspects were arrested following intelligence received by the Command on October 2, 2026, about an attack that occurred on September 22, 2026, where a family was allegedly murdered in their residence.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said detectives immediately began investigations after receiving the information to uncover those behind the incident.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Command, identified the suspects as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, all residents of Oloba Village, Lagelu Local Government Area.
The Police said the suspects allegedly invaded the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children while armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club.
During the attack, the suspects reportedly stole ₦200,000 cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine belonging to the family.
The Command said Hammed Akinbami allegedly shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward reportedly attacked the wife by hitting her on the head.
The situation later turned tragic as the suspects allegedly tied two of the children and threw them into a nearby river, while other members of the family were also killed and their bodies dumped in the same location.
Following the investigation, police detectives visited the scene and recovered several items, including the family’s Boxer motorcycle, one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club allegedly used during the attack.
The three suspects were later arrested and detained. The Police said they confessed during interrogation to their alleged involvement in the crime.
DSP Olayinka said the remains of the wife have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to recover the remains of the other four victims.
“The suspects and case file will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation and necessary legal action,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case, promising that anyone found responsible would face justice.
