In a decisive bid to curb the security challenges threatening socio-economic stability in some parts of Wase Local Government Area, member representing Wase Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase has spearheaded a meeting of traditional, political, and community leaders within the Bashar Chiefdom.
The meeting, held on Saturday at the Palace of the Rekna of Bashar, Alhaji Abdullahi Idirs, brought together security agents, influential community figures, including youth advocates, and village chiefs/
The primary purpose of the meeting was to create a unified front against criminal elements utilising the chiefdom’s border areas and mining zones for illicit activities, especially banditry.
Addressing the stakeholders, Hon. Wase noted that lasting security cannot be achieved through military intervention alone, but requires robust grassroots intelligence sharing and internal cohesion.
Past mobilisation efforts are beginning to yield operational support. Hon. Wase recently commended the Nigerian Army leadership for deploying an Intervention Battalion of Special Forces to the Bashar base. Reports indicate that community leaders are beginning to utilise the base for synergy between the people and the newly deployed troops.
During a recent briefing outlining the chiefdom’s strategic plan, the Bashar traditional leadership stated its commitment to strengthening intelligence gathering by establishing direct communication networks between village heads and frontline security operatives, and also mitigating mining-related crimes by monitoring local mining sites, which have historically attracted an influx of unregulated actors and aggravated rural banditry.
This localised mobilisation highlights Hon. Wase’s broader legislative interventions. He previously sponsored motions of urgent public importance on the floor of the House of Representatives, demanding federal defence deployments and humanitarian relief for displaced persons within Plateau State’s southern zone.
With the stakeholders of Bashar chiefdom now aligned, the community has expressed renewed optimism. The Bashar Chiefdom Community Development Association (BACCODA) noted that Hon. Wase’s proactive leadership, combined with the traditional council’s cooperation, are helping toward restoring peace, protecting agrarian livelihoods, and securing lives and property across the chiefdom.(Culled from Daily Trust)
