Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu
The Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Peter Odey, and former Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Dr. Betta Edu, have felicitated with the state Governor, Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, on his 67th birthday, praising his leadership style and development initiatives.
In separate birthday messages, the duo described Governor Otu as a people-focused leader whose administration has continued to prioritise infrastructure renewal, security, human development and improved welfare of residents across the state.
Odey, in his tribute, described his principal as a leader who represents “purposeful leadership, discipline, and an uncommon sense of duty,” noting that Governor Otu had approached the challenges facing Cross River with courage and determination.
He commended the governor’s efforts in rehabilitating critical infrastructure, including roads, public facilities, housing, power, water supply and other essential services, stressing that the administration had shown that development goes beyond promises to include visible actions and measurable results.
The deputy governor also praised Governor Otu’s commitment to strengthening security across the state, noting that a safe environment was necessary for the growth of education, commerce, agriculture and investment.
“By rightly prioritising security, you have demonstrated that a secure environment is the foundation for education, commerce, agriculture, and investment,” Odey stated.
He further acknowledged the administration’s focus on agriculture, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, skills acquisition and support for farmers and agribusinesses.
Odey also highlighted efforts to revive Tinapa, strengthen Cally Air and restore facilities at the Obudu Mountain Resort, describing the initiatives as important steps towards boosting tourism and economic growth in Cross River.
Reflecting on their working relationship, the deputy governor described Governor Otu as a man of good conscience and piety who remained committed to service despite praise or criticism.
“I am honoured to have embarked on this journey of service with Your Excellency,” he said, while praying for God’s continued guidance, wisdom, good health and strength for the governor.
Similarly, Dr. Betta Edu congratulated Governor Otu, describing him as a people-centred leader whose administration reflects a strong commitment to improving the lives of Cross River residents.
Edu, who is the Director of Women Mobilisation of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, praised the governor’s People First Agenda, saying it demonstrates his commitment to placing citizens at the centre of government policies and programmes.
She commended his efforts towards inclusive development, public welfare and the creation of opportunities for residents, particularly in areas that promote the wellbeing of women and vulnerable groups.
“Happy 67th birthday to my Governor, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu. May God grant you many more years of good health, fulfilment and purposeful service to Cross River State,” she said.
The celebrants wished Governor Otu continued success as he leads Cross River State, praying for greater wisdom, strength and compassion in the discharge of his duties.
