Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says it has identified two suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria’s North-East and has placed both patients in isolation while investigations continue.
The agency made this known in a statement issued on Saturday, saying health officials had already begun identifying and listing people who had contact with the two patients.
According to the NCDC, laboratory tests are currently being carried out to determine whether the suspected patients are infected with the Ebola virus.
The agency explained that the two cases have not been confirmed, stressing that they remain suspected cases until the laboratory results are released.
It urged Nigerians to remain calm and continue observing good hygiene by washing their hands regularly, keeping their surroundings clean and following public health advice.
The latest development comes barely a week after Nigeria confirmed its first Ebola index case in Abuja, which was officially announced by the Federal Government on October 20, 2026.
On Tuesday, the Federal Government also announced that the index patient had been flown to Switzerland for specialised treatment, while health authorities continued to monitor people who had contact with the patient.
Since then, the government has strengthened surveillance across the country and intensified efforts to detect and contain any new cases.
The NCDC said it would continue to provide updates as more verified information becomes available.
Health experts have advised Nigerians to seek medical attention immediately if they notice symptoms such as sudden fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, as early treatment can help reduce the risk of further spread.
