The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has given security agencies 24 hours to arrest operatives of the Sokoto Marshals over an alleged attack on its 2027 governorship candidate, Alhaji Munir Dan-Iya.
The council also demanded the immediate release of two Department of State Services (DSS) personnel reportedly abducted during the incident and adequate protection for the candidate.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by its Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the council said the attack occurred on Thursday along Airport Road, Sokoto.
It alleged that the operatives attacked Dan-Iya’s convoy while he was returning to the city after accompanying former Governor Aminu Tambuwal from the airport.
The council said several vehicles were vandalised during the attack, including the candidate’s personal Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
It further alleged that the two DSS personnel attached to Dan-Iya were abducted during the incident, adding that the candidate had reported the matter to the state Commissioner of Police.
The ADC-PCC also accused the Sokoto Marshals of harassing motorists and targeting vehicles displaying ADC posters and other party symbols at various entry points into the city.
Describing the incident as political intimidation, the council said the alleged attack was part of a growing pattern of violence against opposition members and leaders in the country.
It called on the Inspector-General of Police, the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the incident, arrest those responsible and ensure the safety of its members.
The council warned that failure to meet its demands within 24 hours would compel the party to take further lawful steps to protect its members and defend their democratic rights.
