Edo State Government has taken a major step towards establishing its proposed state-owned airline, Edo Air, after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Express Airline and KDN Aero.
The partnership is expected to lay the foundation for an aviation project that the government believes will create employment opportunities, attract investors and expand economic activities across the state.
Governor Monday Okpebholo, who announced the agreement, said Edo Air was designed to deliver more than air transportation.
He said, “This initiative is about more than owning an airline; it is about creating jobs, boosting tourism, attracting investment, expanding business opportunities and making air travel more accessible for Edo people.”
The governor explained that the airline project aligns with his administration’s commitment to creating an economy where residents can benefit directly from government initiatives.
He noted that improved air connectivity would encourage more investors, tourists and business owners to consider Edo as a destination for investment and commerce.
A functional state-owned airline could also create direct and indirect employment opportunities in areas such as aviation services, hospitality, tourism, logistics and airport-related businesses.
Governor Okpebholo said the state’s vision is to build an environment where businesses thrive and development reaches the people.
“Our goal is to build an Edo State where opportunities abound, businesses thrive and our people directly benefit from development,” he said.
The Edo Air project adds to ongoing efforts by state governments across Nigeria to explore aviation as a tool for economic expansion and improved mobility.
The governor assured residents that the project would move forward as the state works towards making Edo Air operational.
“Edo Air is coming!” Okpebholo declared.
