Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested in Ghana after police investigations allegedly linked them to a robbery syndicate operating around Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, Aboy Promise, Favour Uwalaka and Kingsley, were arrested following an intelligence-driven operation by Ghanaian security authorities.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command said the suspects allegedly targeted bank customers by tracking withdrawals and attacking victims after they left banking premises.
The police said the first operation on October 31 led to the arrest of Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka at a hotel in Moshie Zongo.
“The operation led to the arrest of two Nigerian nationals, Aboy Promise, aged 30, and Favour Uwalaka, aged 45, at a hotel at Moshie Zongo,” the statement said.
The command said investigators recovered cash, mobile phones, a motorcycle and a master key allegedly used to break into vehicles belonging to bank customers.
During questioning, the suspects allegedly mentioned two other persons believed to be connected with the operation.
The police said Kingsley, identified as KC, was later arrested at another hotel in Dechemso, Kumasi, while Chinedu, alias Alhaji, escaped and remains wanted.
The statement added that the suspects admitted involvement in the robbery of a bank customer who lost GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong.
The police also linked the suspects to alleged robbery incidents around Fidelity Bank’s Atonsu branch and Access Bank’s Ahodwo branch.
Authorities said the arrested suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with further investigations.
The Ghana Police Service has urged citizens to share credible information that could help in tracking down the remaining suspect.
