Suspected vandals arrested by the FCT Police Command
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 10 suspected vandals in separate operations across Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to protect public infrastructure from criminal activities.
The operations, carried out in Kubwa, Wuye and the National Mosque area, led to the recovery of armoured electrical cables and a vandalised solar-powered street light allegedly targeted by the suspects.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, the arrests followed intelligence-driven patrols and surveillance by police operatives across the territory.
SP Adeh revealed that the first operation took place on September 2, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., when officers attached to the Kubwa Police Division, while conducting routine patrol around the Bazango-Kubwa area, reportedly spotted a group of individuals vandalising armoured cables.
She said the suspects arrested during the operation were identified as Goodname Oriarebun, 29, of Gishiri, Mabushi; Timothy Donald, 28, of Arab Road, Kubwa; Ayo Buli, 26, of Gishiri, Mabushi; Emmanuel Elijah, 28, of Shelter Farm, Byazhin, Kubwa; and Christian David, 28, of Kabba, Kagini, Abuja.
According to her, in a separate operation, officers from the Wuye Police Division apprehended one Moses Luka, who was allegedly caught digging out armoured cables along the road linking Magic Land and the National Stadium in Abuja.
Police also recorded another breakthrough when a surveillance team from the Wuse Division arrested four suspects around the National Mosque area.
She added that the suspects, identified as Musa Abdullahi, Suleiman Idris, Aliyu Isa and Muhammed Abdulrahman, were allegedly intercepted after cutting down a solar-powered street light with the intention of removing its components.
The police image maker said investigations have commenced to uncover and arrest other members of the suspected vandalism syndicates, including individuals believed to be receiving stolen public infrastructure.
SP Adeh added that all the suspects remain in police custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the officers involved in the operations, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, praised their vigilance and swift response in protecting government assets across the territory.
