Osun State Governor and Accord Party Governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke
The legal battle over the outcome of the August 15 Osun State governorship election has begun, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) formally challenging the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke before the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
The petitions were displayed on Monday at the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo, marking the commencement of the post-election legal process.
The tribunal had earlier indicated that the notices would be posted before noon, while officials at the tribunal secretariat were seen making preparations ahead of the tribunal’s proceedings.
One of the petitions was filed by the APC and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, lists Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
A second petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola. It names Governor Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party as respondents.
The posting of the petitions is a routine procedural requirement in election litigation and signals the beginning of the tribunal process.
The respondents are expected to be formally served before the tribunal can commence substantive hearing of the cases.
Despite the legal challenge, Governor Ademola Adeleke remains the duly declared winner of the August 15 governorship election, pending the outcome of the tribunal proceedings. Adeleke was returned for a second term after polling 511,067 votes to defeat the APC candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes, giving the incumbent a winning margin of 66,252 votes, according to the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
As of the time of filing this report, the tribunal has not released the detailed grounds contained in either petition, and no ruling has been delivered on the matters.
