The Federal Government and labour unions in the education sector have reached a five-point agreement following a meeting convened to address the ongoing dispute surrounding the proposed takeover of King’s College by its Old Students’ Association.
The agreement, reached at the conclusion of the meeting between education ministers, led by the minister of Education Dr Rauf Alausa and Minister of state Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad and representatives of the labour unions, includes the immediate suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by the unions.
Under the terms of the agreement, no staff member will be victimised for participating in the industrial action.
The meeting also agreed to a two-week suspension of the commencement of the implementation of the proposed takeover of King’s College by the Old Students’ Association.
The pause is expected to provide room for further consultations and negotiations among the parties.
Another key resolution was the redeployment of policemen currently stationed within the premises of King’s College, as part of measures to ease tensions surrounding the dispute.
The meeting further approved the establishment of a seven-man negotiation committee to thoroughly examine and review the Federal Government’s agreement with the Old Students’ Association regarding the proposed takeover of the college.
The committee is expected to review the contentious areas of the agreement and make recommendations aimed at resolving the dispute.
The latest development is expected to pave the way for further dialogue between the Federal Government, labour unions and other stakeholders in a bid to reach a lasting resolution to the King’s College controversy.
The Five Point-Agreement from the Meeting include the
Immediate Suspension of The Industrial Action, no staff would be victimised for participating in the Industrial Action and two weeks pause on Take-off of the implementation of Takeover of King’s college by The Old Students .
Others are the redeployment of Policemen From King’s college Premises and the setting up of 7-man committee on Negotiation to x-ray FG’s king’s college agreement with old Students.
