Former Manchester City star Raheem Sterling has been banned from driving after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide and failing to provide a specimen.
Sterling appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday over a May 28 crash involving his Lamborghini Urus.
The 31-year-old admitted driving dangerously on the M25, M3, A327 and Minley Road before the vehicle left the road near the Minley Interchange in Hampshire during morning rush hour.
The court heard that several motorists reported the car after seeing it being driven erratically. One witness said Sterling was swerving between lanes while inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon.
Police later found six canisters of the substance in the vehicle, including two 670g canisters on Sterling’s lap.
He also failed a roadside impairment test and declined to provide a blood sample after being taken into custody. Sterling later told police that he “had a problem” with nitrous oxide.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash and no injuries were reported.
Sterling was disqualified from driving and granted bail. He will return to court on November 25 for sentencing, with the offences carrying a possible prison sentence of up to two years.
Once one of English football’s biggest names, Sterling is currently without a club after leaving Feyenoord at the end of last season.
He began his Premier League career at Liverpool before joining Manchester City in 2015, where he won four Premier League titles. He later played for Chelsea and spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Arsenal before moving to Feyenoord.
His latest legal troubles come after a difficult period in his career, with Sterling’s future in football already uncertain as he remains a free agent.
