Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu has honoured retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (DST) Anifa Bello Abiodun with the IGP’s Award of Recognition and a cash reward for her outstanding service and dedication to the Nigeria Police Force.
The award was presented on Thursday at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where the police chief praised the retired officer for her professionalism, discipline and commitment to traffic management during her years of service with the Ogun State Police Command, especially in Abeokuta.
According to the IGP, Anifa’s consistent dedication to duty and respectful engagement with members of the public earned her admiration from residents and road users, making her one of the officers whose service reflected positively on the image of the Police.
He noted that public appreciation for the Police grows when officers carry out their responsibilities with integrity and professionalism. He added that while misconduct by a few officers often attracts criticism, dedicated personnel who serve with honesty deserve to be recognised and celebrated.
The IGP stressed that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to enforce discipline among erring officers while also rewarding personnel who demonstrate exemplary conduct. He said recognising outstanding officers encourages others within the Force to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and public service.
The recognition of the retired officer comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Police leadership to promote accountability, integrity and excellence within the Force. The initiative is also aimed at improving public confidence in policing by celebrating officers whose conduct strengthens the relationship between the Police and the communities they serve.
Anifa Bello served with the Ogun State Police Command, where she became widely known for her dedication to traffic management and courteous approach to duty. Her years of service earned her widespread respect from residents, with many acknowledging her commitment to ensuring order on the roads and treating members of the public with fairness and professionalism.
