Suspected cultist arrested by Lagos police
Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man suspected to be a cultist during an intelligence-led operation in Ikorodu, recovering a rubber-made pistol, an axe, suspected criminal charms and a quantity of the illicit drug known as “Ice.”
The suspect, identified as Muyideen Olatunbosun, was apprehended by police operatives during an anti-crime patrol covering the Idi-Iroko, Ogolonto and Agric areas of Ikorodu.
According to the police, the arrest followed credible intelligence received by officers while on patrol. A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of the items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
The Command said the suspect is currently in police custody and is assisting investigators.
It added that efforts are underway to track down and arrest other members of the cult group he is suspected to belong to.
Cult-related violence has remained a security concern in parts of Lagos and other states, prompting the police to intensify intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal gangs, reducing violent crimes and improving public safety.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for acting swiftly on credible intelligence.
He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to sustain the ongoing crackdown on cultism and other criminal activities across the state.
The police also appealed to residents to support security agencies by providing useful and timely information that could help prevent crimes and lead to the arrest of criminal suspects.
Members of the public were encouraged to report suspicious activities through the Lagos State Police Command’s emergency lines as part of efforts to strengthen community policing and enhance security across the state.
