Borno State Government has explained the reason behind the prolonged power outage affecting Maiduguri and several other parts of the state, assuring residents that efforts are ongoing to restore electricity.
The Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Mohammed Lawan Buba, said the blackout was caused by a fault on the national grid transmission network serving the state’s electricity supply cluster.
In a statement made available to journalists in Maiduguri on Friday, the commissioner also disclosed that the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant developed a technical fault and is currently undergoing repairs.
He said the two challenges have combined to disrupt electricity supply across many communities in the state.
According to him, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) are working together to fix the problems and restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.
The commissioner appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities during the repair period.
He also urged members of the public to protect electricity facilities and other power infrastructure located in or around their communities from vandalism.
Buba thanked residents for their patience and understanding despite the hardship caused by the blackout.
He assured the people that restoration work is progressing and that every effort is being made to return electricity supply without further delay.
The outage has left Maiduguri residents and businesses struggling with days of darkness, increasing reliance on generators and other alternative sources of power while waiting for electricity to be restored.
