Manchester United missed the chance to take advantage of a 10-man Manchester City side as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Sunday.
City were reduced to 10 men in the 23rd minute when Phil Foden was sent off, leaving United with more than an hour to find a way through.
But United struggled to make the extra man count and were punished when Erling Haaland put City ahead in the 60th minute.
The Norwegian’s finish proved enough as City held on to claim the derby win despite playing a man short for most of the game.
The defeat leaves United with just four points from their opening four Premier League matches, while City continue their perfect start.
For United, the result will be particularly frustrating given the circumstances. They had the numerical advantage for more than an hour but could not turn it into the goal they needed.
