Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy has retired from international football after seven years with the national team.
Mendy, 34, earned 60 caps for Senegal and was part of the side that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022, the country’s first AFCON title.
He also featured in Senegal’s 2025 AFCON triumph over Morocco, making a crucial penalty save from Brahim Diaz late in the final before Pape Gueye scored the winning goal in extra time.
That title, however, is now at the centre of a dispute between Senegal and CAF.
CAF later overturned the result and awarded Morocco a 3-0 win following Senegal’s walk-off during the late stages of the final. Senegal has appealed the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with the case scheduled for October 8.
Mendy therefore leaves international football with his place in one of Senegal’s most successful generations secure, even as the fate of one of its biggest achievements remains unresolved.
He made his Senegal debut in 2018 and was also part of the team at the 2022 and 2026 World Cups.
At club level, Mendy won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021 and has continued his career in Saudi Arabia with Al Ahli.
