Air strikes by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have hit a terrorist enclave at Tumbunma Baba in the Tumbuns area of Borno State, neutralising more than 18 fighters and destroying structures used for meetings and logistics.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters JTF North East OPHK Maiduguri Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Saturday.
Captain Goni said the strikes were carried out in the early hours of Friday, September 11, 2026, in coordination with ground troops of Sector 1.
According to him, the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance of the area, which identified Tumbunma Baba as a meeting and logistics point for high-profile terrorist elements.
He said further surveillance conducted on Wednesday, September 9, helped validate the intelligence, with several structures identified as gathering and support bases.
The military spokesman added that the air platforms subsequently engaged the targets with precision munitions early Friday, while ground troops moved to likely escape routes to prevent the terrorists from fleeing the area.
He said the strikes destroyed the identified structures and logistics facilities, disrupting the group’s use of the enclave as a meeting and support base.
The operation is part of continued military efforts to restrict terrorist movement and access to isolated locations in the Lake Chad islands, where the groups have used difficult-to-reach areas to regroup and replenish their supplies.
