Nigerian Navy has delivered a renovated six-classroom block and a 10,000-litre solar-powered borehole to residents of Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State.
The projects were commissioned and handed over on Friday at St Stephen’s “A” Primary School and Isale Ope community respectively.
The intervention was carried out under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects initiative and facilitated by the Chief of Policy and Plans at Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral AO Olodude.
At St Stephen’s “A” Primary School, the renovated classroom block, now named the Abel Owolabi Olodude Block, is expected to provide pupils with improved learning facilities.
At Isale Ope, the Navy commissioned a solar-powered borehole with multiple taps and a 10,000-litre capacity tank, providing residents with an additional source of clean water.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Chief of Naval Transformation and Innovation, Rear Admiral Chijoke Onyemaobi, said the projects reflected the Navy’s commitment to supporting communities around its areas of operation.
Onyemaobi said the Navy’s responsibilities go beyond protecting Nigeria’s maritime domain, adding that the service also has a role to play in improving the wellbeing and development of host communities.
Community leaders thanked the Navy for the intervention, saying the new classrooms and water facility would ease pressure on pupils, teachers and households in Modakeke.
The naval chief said the projects were designed to address identified needs in the community while strengthening relations between the Navy and residents of Osun State.
