National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Lagos Operations Office, in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), has received 100 Nigerian returnees from Algeria under the Assisted Voluntary Return (AVR) Programme.
The returnees arrived at about 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, aboard an Air Algerie flight with registration number 7T-VJU, which landed at the Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State. The exercise was coordinated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The returnees comprised 96 adults, including 88 males and eight females, as well as four children, comprising one male and three females.

Upon arrival, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) conducted biometric registration and documentation of the returnees to facilitate proper identification, record keeping and the reintegration process.
The returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian assistance, including food and potable water, medical screening and ambulance services for those requiring medical attention, luggage handling and other logistical support.
Reception coordination, counselling and reintegration support were also provided to facilitate the returnees’ safe and successful reintegration into their respective communities.
The reception exercise was successfully conducted, with the relevant government agencies providing the necessary assistance and support to the returnees upon arrival.
