New NSCDC Niger State Commandant, Abdulhamid Kabara
The newly redeployed State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, Commandant Abdulhamid Salisu Kabara, has officially assumed office, taking over the leadership of the command from Commandant Suberu Siyaka Aniviye.
His assumption of duty comes at a critical time for the command following the deaths of 37 persons who were arrested over alleged illegal mining activities in Niger State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti.
According to the statement, Commandant Kabara expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and everyone affected by the tragedy.
The new commandant said the Corps remained committed to carrying out its constitutional responsibilities, including arrest, investigation, law enforcement and the fight against illegal mining across the state.
He, however, stressed that protecting human life must remain a top priority while carrying out those duties.
Kabara noted that enforcing the law should always go hand in hand with protecting the dignity, safety and welfare of persons in custody.
He also prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant them eternal rest and give their families, relatives and loved ones the strength and patience to bear the painful loss.
The statement added that the command would continue to discharge its responsibilities professionally while upholding respect for human rights and the rule of law.
The leadership change comes days after the Federal Government suspended several NSCDC officers and constituted an independent committee to investigate the reported deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in the Corps’ custody in Niger State. The incident has attracted nationwide attention and renewed calls for greater accountability, improved detention standards and respect for the rights of persons in custody. As the new State Commandant, Kabara is expected to lead the command through the ongoing reforms while strengthening public confidence in the Corps’ operations.
