Lawmakers at the House of Representatives
The House of Representatives has extended the implementation of the capital component of the 2025 budget until December 31, 2026.
The decision followed the passage of a bill amending the Appropriation Repeal and Re-enactment Act 2025 during plenary after the annual recess.
House Leader Julius Ihonvbere said the extension became necessary because of economic and fiscal challenges and ongoing government projects.
He explained that the move marks the fourth extension of the 2025 budget implementation.
The House also received a bill from President Bola Tinubu to establish the National Research and Development Fund for financing research across government ministries, departments and agencies.
Lawmakers also received the 2026 statutory budget proposal of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for consideration.
Another executive bill before the House seeks to amend the National Postgraduate Medical College Act to allow the College to award Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Medicine.
