In a tragic incident in Jalingo, Taraba State, a newly enlisted soldier, Dauda Dedan, allegedly stabbed Police Constable Aaron John to death.
The incident occurred on Monday at 9:00 p.m. in the Mayo-Goyi area, a suburb of Jalingo, according to police authorities.
James Lashen, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Command, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday.
He explained that the constable was responding to a distress call from residents regarding a dispute involving the soldier.
“Constable Aaron John was caught in the ensuing chaos, which tragically led to his stabbing,” Lashen said.
The suspect, Dauda Dedan, is currently on the run, but Lashen assured that efforts are underway to apprehend him.
“We’ve informed the 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army, and they’ve committed to tracking down the suspect to ensure justice is served,” he stated.
Lashen added that authorities have visited the soldier’s residence and are working closely with the army to ensure his arrest.
Despite the incident, Lashen emphasized the strong collaboration between the police and the army.
“Our relationship with the Nigerian Army remains very cooperative, and we are confident that the suspect will face the consequences of his actions,” he affirmed.
