Former Kogi State Governor, Ibrahim Idris died in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
Former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, have expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, describing him as a respected statesman whose contributions to governance and national development will be remembered for years.
The separate condolence messages were issued on Sunday following the death of the former Kogi governor in the United Kingdom at the age of 77.
Tambuwal, in his tribute, said he received the news of Idris’ passing with profound sadness, noting that Nigeria had lost one of its experienced political leaders and elder statesmen.
According to the former Sokoto governor, Ibrahim Idris dedicated a significant part of his life to public service and played an important role in the political and developmental history of Kogi State.
“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of former Governor of Kogi State, H.E. Alhaji Ibrahim Idris (Ibro), Jekadan Sokoto,” Tambuwal said.
He added that the late former governor was widely respected for building relationships across political, ethnic and regional divides.
“His passing is a great loss not only to his family and the people of Kogi State, but also to the wider political family and our nation,” he stated.
Tambuwal extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the Kogi State Government and its people, praying for Allah to forgive the late leader’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
Similarly, Governor Radda described the late Ibrahim Idris as a seasoned politician, accomplished businessman and elder statesman whose leadership left lasting footprints in Kogi State.
In a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, the Katsina governor said Idris made significant contributions to the growth of democracy and the development of Kogi State during his years in office.
Radda noted that the late former governor’s administration recorded achievements in infrastructure, education and institutional development, leaving behind a legacy that would continue to be remembered.
He also extended condolences to Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, the government and people of Kogi State, as well as the immediate family of the late statesman.
The governor prayed that Almighty Allah forgive Ibrahim Idris’ shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family and the people of Kogi State the strength to bear the painful loss.
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012, making him one of the state’s longest-serving governors. During his time in office, he played a prominent role in shaping the state’s political landscape and remained an influential figure in national politics even after leaving office.
His death has continued to attract tributes from political leaders, associates and well-wishers across the country, who have described him as a bridge-builder, an experienced administrator and a committed public servant whose legacy will endure.
