Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced significant progress in the rehabilitation of the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line, raising hopes for the restoration of normal bulk electricity transmission to the affected areas.
The company said engineers have completed the dismantling of the collapsed transmission tower and have moved into the next phase of the emergency restoration project.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, TCN said the ongoing repair work followed the recent collapse of Tower T367 along the transmission line corridor.
According to the company, restoration activities at the affected site in Yauri, Kebbi State, have recorded steady progress.
“The collapsed transmission tower has now been completely dismantled and decommissioned, while the conductors and skywire have been properly aligned and prepared for the next stage of the restoration process.”
TCN disclosed that an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower has already been transported to the site and is ready for installation.
The company explained that once the temporary tower is erected, engineers will begin cable stringing and other technical works required to reconnect the transmission line and restore power evacuation.
“This will be followed by cable stringing and associated works towards the restoration of the affected transmission line.”
TCN assured electricity consumers that its engineers and technical personnel are working round the clock to complete the project within the shortest possible time.
“Our engineers and technical personnel remain actively engaged at the site and are working hard to ensure a quick completion and restoration of the line.”
The company thanked electricity consumers and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the ongoing repair work.
“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of electricity consumers and other stakeholders affected by the incident and assures the public that every effort is being made to restore the line and consequently, normal bulk transmission as soon as possible.”
The 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi transmission line is a critical part of Nigeria’s national electricity grid, transmitting bulk power from generating stations to distribution networks. The ongoing rehabilitation is expected to improve grid reliability and help restore stable electricity supply to communities and businesses served by the line once the work is completed.
