Members of the Joint Health Sector Union, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) Chapter on Wednesday embarked on a three day warning strike to press home their age long demands from the management of the health institution.
While formally declaring the commencement of the strike, in Ilorin the Kwara state capital during an emergency congress of the Union, Chairman of the Union, Olutunde Oluwawunmi said that the agitation of the Union is hinged on member’s welfare and a conducive working environment.
Oluwawunmi said, “the management is still owing its members series of promotion arrears since 2010” adding that there is an urgent need to rehabilitate all dilapidated structures and replace all obsolete medical equipments in the hospital.
Speaking on behalf of the management of the hospital, the Head of Corporate Affairs Unit, Mrs. Olabisis Ajiboye said the management of the hospital is aware of the industrial action by the Union and will soon issue a statement on the development.
