The arrested suspect impersonating DSS operative
Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a man allegedly posing as one of its operatives after he was found wearing the agency’s tactical uniform and carrying a fake pistol in Abuja.
The suspect, identified as Moferewa Maiye, was apprehended late Wednesday following an intelligence-led operation by DSS officers.
Maiye, who said he is from Agbajojun Village in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, was tracked to his hideout near NITEL Junction along Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II, Abuja, where he was taken into custody.
Security sources disclosed that the suspect was dressed in a DSS tactical outfit and in possession of a counterfeit pistol at the time of his arrest.

According to the source, the DSS launched the operation after receiving credible intelligence that Maiye had allegedly been using the uniform and fake firearm to intimidate motorists and commuters while extorting money from them.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told investigators that the DSS uniform belonged to his late brother, whom he identified as Monday Maiye.
“He claimed that his brother was a DSS personnel who died years ago,” the source said, adding that the suspect insisted the tactical kit found in his possession belonged to the deceased.
The source further disclosed that the suspect remains in DSS custody as investigations continue into how he obtained the agency’s uniform and other operational items.
“Investigators are also trying to establish how long the suspect has been involved in similar acts of impersonation and extortion.
“The arrest underscores growing concerns by the Service over the activities of individuals who impersonate security personnel to intimidate members of the public and commit criminality,” the source declared.
