The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Garrison has witnessed a change of leadership as Major General Raymond Terungwa Utsaha assumed command from Major General Alechenu Mike Alechenu. The handing and taking over ceremony took place today, Friday, 18 September 2026 at DHQ Garrison Headquarters, Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja.
In his inaugural address, the incoming Commander, Major General Raymond Utsaha, thanked God for the opportunity to serve and pledged to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor.
He averred that his administration would be anchored on continuity, consolidation and relentless improvement, with a collective resolve to take the Garrison to greater heights.
Major General Utsaha commended the outgoing Commander for laying a solid foundation and pledged to build on existing systems.
He noted that the task ahead is demanding and can only be accomplished through teamwork and the collective efforts of officers and soldiers. He charged personnel to be professional and diligent in the discharge of their duties, stressing that every effort would count towards the overall success of the Garrison.
Earlier, the outgoing Commander, Major General Alechenu, expressed gratitude to God for a successful tenure and commended officers and personnel for their support, loyalty and dedication.
He described his successor as a trusted colleague and brother, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Garrison effectively.
He urged personnel to extend the same cooperation and support given to him to the new Commander, noting that change is a constant feature in military service.
Highlights of the event were the signing of handing and taking over notes, handing over of the command flag to the new Commander and group photographs.
