The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has disrupted the activities of suspected kidnappers during a coordinated air operation in Benue State, recording another success in the fight against insecurity.
The operation was carried out in the Ogbadigbo area near the Enugu–Benue boundary, where the Air Force provided close air support to ground troops advancing against the criminals.
The mission comes just days after the tragic military aircraft crash in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, which claimed the lives of 25 military personnel, making Thursday’s successful operation another significant moment for the armed forces.
According to the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the operation disrupted the activities of the suspected kidnappers and enabled surface forces to continue their advance against the criminal elements.
He explained that after successfully completing the combat mission, the pilot, on returning to base, decided to carry out a precautionary landing about 10 nautical miles from the airfield.
According to him, the action was taken in line with established operational and safety procedures that guide combat missions.
Ejodame confirmed that the helicopter later returned safely to base without incident.
“The NAF remains committed to sustaining pressure on criminal elements, providing close air support to surface forces and protecting communities through coordinated air and ground operations,” he said.
He added, “The successful outcome underscores the NAF’s continued resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and support efforts to restore safety and security to affected communities.”
The latest operation highlights the military’s continued efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across Nigeria through coordinated air and ground operations. Security experts say such missions are important in supporting troops on the ground, weakening criminal networks and improving safety for residents in affected communities.
