National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office (AOO), has conducted coordinated search and rescue operations in communities affected by flooding in Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The operation was undertaken to respond to the flood emergency, safeguard lives and support vulnerable populations in the affected communities.
The communities include Edakabawa, Ehebechi, Ehuruma, Edagachi, Adimbeku and Ogoh, where flooding has disrupted normal activities and posed risks to residents.
NEMA’s Search and Rescue Team carried out operations in collaboration with key emergency management stakeholders, including the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Nigerian Red Cross (NRC) and Local Emergency Management Committee (LEMC).
Representatives of the participating agencies worked together to ensure effective coordination, assess the situation and facilitate emergency response activities across the affected communities.
The joint operation highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing flood emergencies and protecting lives and livelihoods, particularly in vulnerable and riverine communities.
NEMA urged residents of flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, comply with safety advisories from relevant authorities and avoid activities that could expose them to flood-related dangers.
