Pope Leo XIV, Peter Obi and his wife, Margaret Obi
Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed gratitude to God over the successful surgery of Pope Leo XIV and prayed for the Holy Father’s full recovery.
Obi made this known in a post on his official X account on Wednesday, where he said he had remembered the Pope in his prayers while the medical procedure was taking place.
“Yesterday, I kept Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Catholic Church and Sovereign of Vatican City, in my earnest prayers as he underwent surgery,” Obi wrote.
He said he was encouraged by reports that the surgery was successful and that the Pope was recovering well.
“I am grateful for the encouraging reports of his successful surgery and recovery. I thank God for seeing the Holy Father through this procedure and pray for his complete recovery, renewed strength and good health,” he said.
Obi also prayed for God’s guidance upon the medical team caring for the Pope during his recovery.
“May God continue to guide his medical team, sustain him in this period of recovery and grant him the grace to return fully to his pastoral duties,” he added.
The former Anambra State governor ended his message with his familiar signature phrase, “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
Pope Leo XIV is the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church and the Sovereign of Vatican City. As head of the world’s more than one billion Catholics, his health is closely followed by faithful across the globe.
Obi, a practising Catholic, has consistently joined millions of Christians in offering prayers and goodwill messages to the Pope during significant moments affecting the Catholic Church.
His latest message reflects the concern of many Catholics and other well-wishers who continue to pray for the Holy Father’s complete recovery and return to his pastoral mission.
