Despite the significant successes achieved in the treatment and discharge of patients infected with the novel corona virus (COVID-19) in Africa, the rate of infections has continued to grow.
The latest compilation by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map), shows that as of May 29, 2020, confirmed As of May 29, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 case from 55 African countries has reached 129,624.
According to the CSSE, which uses statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments, reported deaths in the continent have reached 3,791 and recoveries 53,418.

South Africa has the most reported cases – 27,403, with deaths numbering 577.
Other most-affected countries include Egypt (20,793 cases), Algeria (8,997), Nigeria (8,915) and Morocco (7,643).
In Nigeria, 276 the new cases were recorded across 15 of the 36 states in the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the breakdown by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the new cases included Lagos -161, Rivers – 36, Edo-27, Kaduna – 19, Nasarawa – 10, Oyo – 6, Kano – 4, Delta-3, and Ebonyi-3.
