VP Kashim Shettima
ident Senator Kashim Shettima, has called on humanitarian organisations, communities, development partners and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration with the government in addressing the underlying causes of humanitarian crises and building lasting solutions that restore dignity and resilience.
The Vice President made the call on Thursday at the United Towns Agency (UTA) International Humanitarian Award and Lecture in Abuja, where he was represented by the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar.
In his keynote address titled “The Architecture of Peace,” Vice President Shettima stressed the need for concerted efforts to “convert sympathy into systems, outrage into prevention, and relief into a pathway back to dignity.”
He called for stronger information sharing and collaboration among local leaders, traditional institutions, women, young people, humanitarian organisations and security agencies to prevent emerging threats from escalating into crises.
He also noted that Nigeria’s humanitarian challenges are closely linked to developments across the Sahel, Lake Chad Basin, West Africa and the wider continent.
Vice President Shettima said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has demonstrated a strong conviction that regional partnership remains a practical pathway towards global peace and shared prosperity.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to building a society where justice, security and opportunity strengthen sustainable peace and development.
The Nigeria Country Head of UTA, Princess Abigail Amalaha, said the event was organised as part of activities commemorating this year’s World Humanitarian Day and also featured the unveiling of the UTA Social Centre.
