The head of the Italian Bishops’ Conference (CEI), Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, has been moved to an intensive care unit due to a worsening COVID-19-related condition.
The 78-year-old, who has been in a hospital in Perugia since Saturday, was transferred overnight following a change in his vital parameters, CEI said in a statement.
CEI said that Bassetti had not lost consciousness, and added that members of the bishops’ conference, meeting via videoconference, were praying for him as well as other COVID-19 patients and health professionals.(dpa/NAN)
